Something Special is Will Tang’s PRS New Music Stage submission for Edinburgh Fringe ’08.
Will Tang is a roots musician with a unique story to tell. Following his Anglo-Chinese roots he journeyed East from his home town of Rochdale to become an established artist in Hong Kong, earning a reputation as one of Asia's finest blues harp players. Five albums later, he returned to the UK with a fresh musical perspective and a sound to match.
Something Special is a track from Will's UK debut album Everything Changes - released by new indie label Zen Music in November 2007. The song, inspired by a telephone call with his daughter, is a light hearted message from child to father which ends with the all too familiar line “don't forget to bring something special back with you!" Highlighting Will's diverse influences, the music is a happy mix of world flavours with an African beat and distinctive Cuban guitar riff, something akin to Paul Simon’s Graceland meets Buena Vista Social Club. A breath of fresh air sure to raise festival spirits!
